Five Years

23 Jul

Five years ago, I married my best friend.  I know, it’s so cheesy…but it’s so true!  I would rather hang out with Mr. Soup than anyone else in the world.  He’s the one person I don’t get tired of.  I still get flutters in my heart when I see him.  My tummy does flips when he looks at me with those deep brown eyes.

When getting ready, I wasn’t nervous at all.  Only smiles on my face.

Even when I forgot my bra and had to borrow my braidsmaid’s.

That first sight of you was perfect. In all your kilted glory, I wanted to just run down the aisle to you.

Your face was exactly what I wanted to see at that moment.

Our ceremony was perfect. Exactly what I wanted. Prayers and love filled that room. The same room that my parent’s were married in. My favorite moment was our time behind the altar while my cousin’s sang. Those precious minutes will always remain with me.

We were halfway there…in limbo. Not married but not just engaged either. I couldn’t help myself and needed to touch you. I knew I would get in trouble, but had to kiss you somehow. I didn’t care.

Then suddenly, we were married! So excited, I walked back down the aisle without my bouquet. I didn’t care!

Our transportation to the reception site ended up getting a flat tire, so arrived much later than it was scheduled. But I didn’t mind. We got to take more pictures at the church and relax for just a bit.

The poor guy that drove the vintage Rolls Royce had to change a tire in his chauffeur outfit. He was tiny and upon seeing the front seat, one can see why. The car was altered to allow for more room in the back seat, not leaving much in the front.

We finally arrived and went to cut the cake immediately so people could start eating. Of course, no one could find a knife to cut, so we hung out for a bit longer….

Speeches, more pictures as the sun started setting and our first dance.

After that, time seemed to just speed by in a flash. The evening was in fast forward.

Can-can dancing and “Scottish” step dancing I remember.

I also remember the infamous hat. It was discovered in our trunk when things started getting loaded into it. Had been won at the Rose Festival a few weekends earlier. It was used for the money dance, and then pretty much everyone took a turn at some point wearing that hat.

The evening was a success. A full and complete success. Everyone had so much fun.

Even now, people will comment about how much fun they had. I love the memories of the wedding…but the marriage. The marriage has been the best.

Thank you, honey, for being my perfect match. For complimenting my crazy with your own. I love you, forever and always. Thank you for putting up with my randomness and moods. God truly knew what he was doing when he beat us over the head to get together. And for that I am so incredibly thankful.
