You Capture – Something New

10 Sep

I was worried about this You Capture.  What was I going to do?  And then, I made plans to go with a friend into Downtown Portland to take some photos.

This was perfect!  I hadn’t been in a real city for a while.  Here I was with several hours on my hands, my dad’s Nikon D60 *in* my hands and no baby.  Such a rewarding span of time.

I took photos of trains:

Train Yard 02

Train Yard 03

Train Yard 05

Train Yard 06

Train Yard 08

The Freemont Bridge

Freemont Bridge 03

Freemont Bridge 02

And Fences:

Portland Industrial 16

Portland Industrial 21

Portland Industrial 28

Portland Industrial 29

Portland Industrial 32

Overall, a very successful trip.

I can’t decide which is my favorite. I like the black and white train picture because of the leaves in the foreground. Thanks for stopping by my place!

I LOVE the B&W train, the first bridge shot and the first two fence pictures. They are very creatively captured and I don’t know if you edited them much, but whether you did or didn’t they have gorgeous colouring 😀 That said the rest are pretty awesome too!

    • mrssoup September 10, 2009 at 4:02 pm #

Thank you so much! The last train and the second fence photos are the only ones that I altered the colors on. Everything else is natural. The day was so gorgeous, just amazing lighting. We lucked out!

Wow!! You had a great day! Yeah for blue skies and who knew fences could be so interesting. I love all the layers of the second bridge photo through the fence.

Nice. I love trains. I love the look of the black and white one the best. But, ironically, I love the color one with the barb wire too! Did you go with your kids?

You asked about the Oregon Zoo (yes it was the Oregon Zoo). For the bat shot, I shot at 1600 ISO which was really grainy. Also, the bat was totally still. I softened it in Camera Raw to fuzz out the grain. Thanks for asking. 🙂

I was actually able to go kid free for the couple hours we went. It was nice, but towards the end, my breasts definitely started saying it was time to get back to the baby.

I thought it was the Oregon Zoo. How sad is it that I could recognize it by the setup of the exhibits? Ahh, the bat being still must have been my problem. I’ve never been able to find one hanging out long enough to get it. Thank you for the tip! I love those photos…
