Last Monday I traveled up north to Washington to shoot my friend’s newborn.
No, not with a gun silly! With a camera!
As my dad had taken his Nikon D60 with him camping (the meanie head) I used my Fuji S5200 instead. Not as awesome as the DSLR but not as simple as a Point-and-Shoot.
We had fun!
Isabelle was a doll, sleeping most of the time and we got some (I think so anyways) great shots. Here are a few of my favorites!

Darling. Love the first one! My only comment would be to not use the flash on indoor shots… but depending on your camera, maybe you did not have that option…
She has so much hair! My children STILL don’t have great hair like that 🙂
Yeah, most of them didn’t have the flash on, but the lighting was so horrible….it was the first day of cloudy rainy crappy weather after weeks of sunshine.
And yeah, her hair is CRAZY. It’s only gotten longer and more crazy. Apparently when she gets a bath, it curls up like she has a perm.
Very nice! The color balance doesn’t seem consistent between the shots, but that could have been the lighting/use of flash more than anything else. Overall, though, good composition!
Yeah, unfortunately the lighting was horrible and the only extra light I had was one of those older style floor lamps with the three heads and yellowy bulbs. I tried to work them in Photoshop, but consistency was not great.
Thank you though! I know now that I need to get some sort of light box to bring with me, especially when the weather will be crappy.
These are DARLING!
And you are the winner of the Tiny Prints contest at my blog… can you email me soon?
Thanks!
Steph
Thank you!
And fantastic! Thank you so much!
Those are the cutest pictures ever! How absolutely adorable.
Thank you! I’m so glad you like them!
I didn’t know you were in to photography! Are you over at ILP?
Newborns are HARD! A trick for you if you didn’t know is to use a hair dryer. Blow it on the baby (make sure you don’t burn them!) and the warmth and the noise can help them sleep and keep them settled. Also good for warming up blankets etc before putting bub on to them.
Congratulations on your first shoot 🙂
Very tentitively getting into it! Don’t want to make TOO much of a deal until I learn more. lol.
What’s ILP?
Oooo, the hair dryer trick is a great idea! I have a bunch of newborns/infants to shoot in the future I’m sure, since there are about 8 people I know pregnant. :p So any tricks are wonderful!
And thank you!
