Close Encounters of the Celebrity Kind

23 Jun

Over at the Daily Mish Mash, there is a party of celebrating Close Encounters with celebrities.  Check it out to read great stories!

I’ve only had one encounter with a celebrity.  Okay, I lied.  I’ve had two.  Kinda.  I’ll explain later…

When I was in college at the University of Oregon, I worked for a movie theatre.  One of the best jobs as a college student, since hello – free movies?  Thank you!  It was a great job.  The people were awesome to work with (shout out to my Cinemark peeps, yo!), the managers were fun and the job wasn’t too difficult.  Yes, every so often there was vomit to clean up (sometimes off of my shoes), cups of chew spit (sometimes including vomit from me….blech) and the occasional pair of teenagers getting it on that we get to kick out.  I got to be wild and crazy, acting like an idiot if I was on Cart (when big movies came out, two people would sell concessions out of a little cart thing at the big movies and we’d get to have fun with each other and the audience) and sometimes dress up (like for the first Pirates movie.  I was the only one in costume and got to take tickets.  I love preforming….).  But I digress.  (And am using way to many parenthesis.)

One day around Christmas time, we got word that David Copperfield wanted to come see a movie after his show.  Everyone got excited because it was something out of the ordinary.  After the tickets were given to him at the front, the box office staff passed down the line on the walkie talkies that he was in the building.  I was sweeping the hallway (very slowly) and saw him head into the theatre with a tall, skinny Hollywood blonde (we guessed she was his assistant….or date…..hard to say).  The movie was that horrible Adam Sandler animated holiday flick, but there is no accounting to taste.

The movie ended and I was waiting with the rest of the crew to clean the theatre after it emptied.  The last pair to leave was David Copperfield and his blonde.  He stopped as he stepped out of the door (kinda posing, like he was expecting a breeze to toss his hair) and looks at us poor college kids, standing there in matching black pants, shoes and some movie themed t-shirt, holding brooms, large trash cans and bags and turns to me.  He opens his mouth and says…..

“Where’s the bathroom?”

Huh. I would have expected more from David Copperfield. “Where’s the bathroom?” How boring and normal!

You’re still better than me. I get all kinds of excited when I see our local weather guy out and about. He’s the only celebrity I’ve ever seen and, well, he’s not much of a celebrity.

I know! I was hoping he would like, pull out a bird from his coat and say “Do you have any birdseed?” or something entertaining….alas.

And hey, local weather guys are great! Especially if it was our local one. He’s hawt!!

Maybe he was so disappointed that the Paparazzi hadn’t followed him to the theater he couldn’t think of anything else to say. Poor thing. It’s heck being a B-List celebrity! 🙂

You know what, that could be very true. He seemed very…holier than thou when he walked in.

Glad you shared your David Copperfield sighting! I mean he sounds like a bit of a weirdo but I guess that is to be expected.

I added your post to the Mister Linky. Hope that is ok.

No, I don’t mind at all! It wasn’t working for me when I tried earlier…

And yeah, I don’t think magicians are all there in the first place.
