Ghost Stories…

16 Jun

So Aunt Becky over at Mommy Wants Vodka posted about her brother’s house that had a ghost.  She then asked us for our experiences with ghosts.  I started to reply and realized there was WAY TOO MUCH information for a comment.

I’m posting instead.

My first ghost experience was in high school.  Every lunch, my group of friends and I would go hang out in the theatre area on the stage.  We would sit on the sets if they were up, just talking about nothing.  One day, we were laughing about the fact that it was suppose to be haunted.  In one of those neutral pauses in the conversation we heard sawing coming from the shop area.  The four of us looked at each other, giggled softly and immediatly started slinking over to the shop area, thinking we would scare whoever was in there working.  We leaped around the corner…..

…into a dark room.  There was no one in there.

I next experienced ghost stories and an event up close and personal when I attended Cottey College in Nevada, Missouri.  The school has been around since 1884 and there are two main groups of ghost stories.  The first, and most well known, is that of Vera.  She died in a fire while making candy and is said to roam around and visit.  She is a friendly ghost and sometimes can be heard to play music in the Chapel.  I have a friend who was practicing her singing in the Chapel and heard the organ begin playing, but no one was there.  There was also no way someone could have come in around her, as there is only one door.

The other ghost is known as the Man in Black.  He is said to have been a suitor of someone and is seen searching the dorms for her.  The interesting part about that one is that males are not allowed into the suites after dark and have to be escorted by a girl at all times (since it is an all-girls school) so a male wandering the halls dressed all in black is not normal.

There is also an unmarked grave to the West of the town.  It is said that a woman was thrown from a train and someone found the body and buried it.  There are always fresh flowers on this grave.  Unsolved Mysteries tried to do a story on it, since the flowers were always fresh, even if you removed them.  They set up their cameras, removed the flowers and came back the next day.  Of the three cameras, one was melted into a puddle of plastic, one didn’t have the tape anymore and the third filmed perfectly, then had hours of static, before filming again. An orb floats around the area as well and is said to be the ghost of the woman.

One day, I was hanging out with my boyfriend at the time, two classmates and their boyfriends.  We decided to go visit a set of abandoned train cars.  We crawled into a grain car and we sitting, talking.  It was about 10 at night, I would say.  One of the other friends that was there but didn’t want to climb down because she was afraid of heights was standing outside and she started freaking out.  We all laughed at her until she climbed to the top, her eyes closed and was yelling that there were lights floating above the field to one side.  One of the guys climbed up, looked over and saw those same lights.  They didn’t seem to be connected to anything and were getting closer.  We all freaked as well as quickly got out of there.

I don’t quite know what I believe.  But just in case there are ghosts out there, please don’t eat me!!!!!

Do you have any ghost stories to share?

Creepy! I don’t have any ghost stories, and after being creeped out by yours, I think I’m okay with that!
